Why we do, what we do -
In the early to mid 90’s, there was a massive need for housing. There was a surplus of trees; so instead of stacking stones, builders started cutting trees into 2 x 4’s. They didn’t build the houses to last more than 10-15 years, but it was there to fill the need. We are still using those means and methods today, and that’s the problem. It needed to change – not the design, but the execution. That’s why we’re here. To provide a solution. That’s why we started Stronghold Structures.
We wanted to create the perfect skeleton for building houses. Something that will never change – because it’s steel, not wood. It will not shrink, it will not twist, it will not bow. Eight to twelve years from now, when you want to remodel your house - you can confidently do that knowing that the frame is still perfect. That’s the art of solving the crooked house.
Abe Van Wingerden is the Owner & President of Stronghold Structures.
He has hands-on experience in almost every facet of the construction business. He has a diverse background in cutting edge technologies and is passionate to make construction great again. His time spent as a timber framer gave him a love for solid construction that stood the test of time, but he realized that not everyone liked the look of heavy timbers nor could everyone afford one. He set out in search of a lighter, more versatile and affordable building system that would still provide strength and longevity that his customers were desiring. This is how Stronghold Structures came to be. Everyone deserves a strong structure that will last for many generations to come.
Abe lives near the coast just outside the beautiful city of Charleston, SC. He is married to his best friend of 27 years and together they have 12 children. His hobbies include aviation, collecting tools, enjoying the beach, and paddle boarding on the river with his teenagers.
